A teenager was shot and injured by the Palestinian Authority (PA) security forces during an arrest raid in Nablus overnight Thursday, Ma’an news agency reported.
According to Ma'an, Palestinian youths threw stones and an “explosive device” at the PA security forces as they raided al-Faraa refugee camp to arrest a “wanted suspect,” prompting the forces to open live fire.
Consequently, 16-year-old Salem Bassam Shawish was hit in the chest.
Shawish was rushed to a nearby hospital in Nablus and was then transferred to Ramallah for further treatment.
It is not the first time the PA forces open live fire on Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. In October, forces shot and killed Bilal al-Rajabi, 25, during an arrest raid in Hebron.
Last month, Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri criticized the PA's "violent" and "politically motivated arrests."
"Hamas denounces the escalating violations and criminal acts by the PA security services against supporters of Hamas and the Palestinian resistance," Zuhri said, calling on PA President Mahmoud Abbas to stop the Israeli-benefiting detention campaign.
Similarly, the Islamic Jihad movement urged Abbas on to release all political detainees and refrain from detaining any Palestinian over their political affiliation.
The two resistance movements also urged the PA to stop its security coordination with Israel, warning that it has reached a "very dangerous" level.
Islamic Jihad spokesman Yousef al-Hasayna said the appreciation expressed by the Israeli authorities regarding the PA’s security coordination with the occupation forces "is a strike to the nationalistic values of the Palestinian security services” and “is in contrast with the values and beliefs of the Palestinian people.”
“Israel is using this coordination to oppress the Palestinians and make sure no uprising will erupt in the West Bank and Jerusalem," al-Hasayna said. “The only one benefiting from this coordination is the Israeli occupation."
Besides the PA’s excessive use of force, Palestinian youths are also subjected to brutal practices by the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF).
On December 10, 55-year-old Ziad Abu Ein, a PA minister, died after Israeli forces beat him on the chest with the butts of their rifles and their helmets in the village of Turmsayya in the Ramallah district during a peaceful march marking Human Rights Day.
Following Abu Ein’s death, both Hamas and the Islamic Jihad called, again, on the PA to halt all security coordination with the IOF.
At the time, Abbas condemned "the brutal assault that led to the martyrdom" of Abu Ein and promised that “necessary measures” would be taken, including suspending security cooperation with the IOF.
However, few days later, following a request by US Secretary of State John Kerry, Abbas postponed his decision regarding halting the PA’s security cooperation with the Zionist state.
