Hamas slams Ma’an for making lies about Tuesday marches

GAZA, (PIC)-- The Hamas Movement deplored the Fatah-affiliated Ma’an news agency for falsely claiming that the Palestinian security forces dispersed a peaceful march calling for national unity in Gaza.

Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri stated in a press release on Tuesday that Ma’an reflected its usual incredibility and that it is a mere tool used by Fatah faction to fabricate lies and unfounded news about its opponents.

Spokesman Abu Zuhri affirmed that Ma’an fabrications about Tuesday marches in Gaza contradicted local and international news reports.

He stressed that Ma’an is notorious for its partisanship and reporting lies, calling on free media outlets not to deal with the news reports published by this agency.

The Palestinian government in Gaza also condemned Ma’an for its press coverage of the marches demanding Hamas and Fatah to end the estrangement between them.

In a press release issued by its information office, the government said it rejects all the lies, misinformation and distortion of the civilized image demonstrated by both the citizens and police men during Tuesday marches, especially Ma’an’s false news about dispersing a march in Al-Katiba square.

For its part, the Palestinian ministry of interior issued a press release explaining the circumstances of what happened in Al-Katiba square in Gaza and denounced the lack of credibility and accuracy in the news reports published by Ma’an, Palestine TV and some partisan radio stations.

“Most of the groups that gathered in Al-Katiba square were affiliated with Fatah faction, especially from the previous security apparatuses and had nothing to do with any event for ending the division, as the place prepared for the event was the unknown soldier square,” the ministry stated.

“The time of this event was five o’clock in the evening, but these groups did not abide by the event’s place and time and tried to exploit the atmosphere of demonstration in order to create chaos by chanting inflammatory slogans against the Palestinian government in Gaza,” it added.
