[ 18/08/2010 - 12:58 PM ] The Movement of Hamas reiterated its rejection of what it described as the frivolous negotiations with Israel and said that the option of peace talks is the choice of an isolated group and does not represent the Palestinian majority.
In a press release on Tuesday, Hamas affirmed that the majority of Palestinian factions opposed in a meeting held in Damascus a few days ago Mahmoud Abbas's direct talks with Israel.
It underlined that the Palestinian Authority's wagering on the international quartet's statement as a framework for its negotiations with Israel is only a mirage aimed at pushing the Palestinian negotiator into a political quagmire.
The statement also said that the pretext of its exposure to European and American pressures used by Abbas and his entourage to justify their thirst for negotiation with Israel reflected that they collapsed politically and became ineligible to protect the national rights and constants.
In another context, senior Fatah official Nabil Amr revealed that Abbas's authority issued a decision preventing him from writing in West Bank newspapers or appearing on TV channels, especially the ones affiliated with Fatah at the pretext that his remarks raise the ire of many people.Amr, who served as Fatah ambassador to Cairo and resigned after a dispute with Abbas, admitted that Fatah faction has undergone a series of failures since late president Yasser Arafat died, adding that he read a few days ago a report on Fatah's accomplishments after Arafat and he feels ashamed to mention any of them.
He also touched on the "shameful" antinational positions of Fatah and its authority on Israel's last war and Goldstone report and slammed Abbas's unstable attitude towards the direct and indirect negotiations with Israel.
