TEHRAN, (PIC)-- Khaled Mishaal, the head of Hamas’s political bureau, stated Tuesday that the prisoner swap deal still faces obstacles because of Israel’s refusal of the Palestinian demands, pointing out that the German mediator played an important role in the progress of the deal.

In a news conference held in Tehran, Mishaal said that Hamas insisted on its demands and is waiting for Israel to positively respond, refuting Israeli allegations that Hamas leaders at home and abroad have different positions regarding the swap deal.

He affirmed in another context that his Movement would not accept any violation of Palestinian law, which provides for recourse to legislative and presidential elections, adding the Palestinian legislative council (PIC) would remain assuming its duties until the election of a new council.

The Hamas leader pointed out that the institutions of the Palestine liberation organization (PLO) are illegitimate and undemocratic and Hamas will deal with any decision issued by these institutions according to special criteria.

The leader reiterated that Hamas is still extending its hands to all Palestinian forces to save the Palestinian people through a national rescue program and continues to hold discussions and consultations with Palestinian factions in this regard.

Earlier, the Hamas delegation led by Khaled Mishaal met with Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic revolution in Iran, and briefed him on the latest developments in the Palestinian arena and the failure of the settlement process.

Ezzat Resheq, a member of Hamas’s political bureau, said that Mishaal highlighted the reconciliation efforts and the obstacles that obstruct these efforts, expressing hope that the Iranian support for the steadfastness of the Palestinian people would continue.

For his part, Khamenei welcomed the delegation and expressed his keenness on following the developments in Palestine especially the Israeli violations in occupied Jerusalem, stressing that any attack on the Aqsa Mosque is an assault on the honor of all Muslims.

The Iranian leader emphasized that any new war on the Palestinian people in Gaza would lead to another Israeli defeat, adding that Iran would never stop its support for the Palestinian people and their resistance.

For his part, Hashemi Rafsanjani, the head of the expediency discernment council, stated during his meeting with the delegation of Hamas that the Palestinian cause is the Muslim nation’s most important issue.

Rafsanjani added that supporting the steadfastness of the Palestinian people and preserving their spirit of resistance are the most important elements of their victory over the Israeli occupation.

He also expressed his sympathy with the besieged Gaza people and called on the Muslim world to assume its duties and put an end to the injustice and oppression in Palestine.

Iranian foreign minister Manouchehr Mottaki, for his part, expressed during his meeting with Hamas delegation, Iran’s willingness to see the Palestinian factions and movements united in order to achieve the lofty goals of their people.
Mottaki congratulated Hamas on the 22nd anniversary of its inception and affirmed the Iranian people participate in the victories and celebrations of the Palestinian resistance in Gaza.

The delegation of Hamas also was received by Ali Larijani, the speaker of the Iranian parliament, who highlighted that the resistance option is the only weapon to restore the Palestinian usurped rights.

Larijani hailed Hamas as the symbol of resistance against the Israeli occupation, and highlighted that Iran always considers its support for the Palestinian people as one of its big glories.

GAZA, (PIC)-- Palestinian prisoner Shawki Abu Adhra, 37, is suffering pain in his spinal cord for the past three years and in the right eye for the past ten months, Husam society for the defense of prisoners said in a statement on Tuesday.

It said that Abu Adhra's eye problem followed an unsuccessful operation and was still hurting him without any proper treatment accorded to him.

Husam noted that the prisoner's wife and sister appealed for sending a lawyer to Abu Adhra, adding that they have been banned form visiting him for the past six years.

The society asked the Red Cross to help in treating the prisoner and to stand up to the Israeli violations of international laws concerning prisoners.

Abu Adhra was detained at the Rafah crossing by the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) in December 2003 and was sentenced to 15 years in jail for injuring an IOF soldier and training others on use of weapons.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian prisoner's committee in the West Bank denounced the Israeli ban on family visits to Palestinian prisoners.

It said in a statement on Tuesday that the IOF soldiers tore visit permits of a number of families at roadblocks and arbitrarily blocked their visitation.
