Lebanon: "Hezbollah has a right to use its weapons against Israel ..." and “Israel” Won’t Accept Hezbollah’s Membership in the Lebanese Gov’t!

Here we go again with the threats. Sometimes the Israelis seem so unintelligent, what does it mean to destroy thousands of homes, and major bridges and roads the resistance didn’t use? Holding all Lebanon accountable right? You have always held all Lebanon accountable so shut it and find better ways to fill your time like packing your bags when the next war you launch starts .

Al Manar

25/11/2009 Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said Tuesday that Israel will not accept Hezbollah’s membership in the Lebanese government and will hold Lebanon responsible for any military clash in the north.

“We will not accept the equation whereby a UN member state is home to a militia in possession of 40,000 rockets but also parliament members and ministers,” he said while meeting municipal leaders in northern occupied territories. “The Lebanese government is responsible for any clash rather than the Hezbollah, and all of Lebanon’s systems will be held accountable.”

Barak noted that the government in Lebanon was sophisticatedly set up to resemble a normal state, while Hezbollah enjoys veto power and the freedom to act. “They entered the 2006 war with 14,000 rockets and missiles…today they possess more than 40,000 missiles with larger warheads,” he said.

Barak claimed that Security Council Resolution 1701 has failed to curb Hezbollah’s arming process, but said that “deterrence still exists.”

“There’s clearly coordination with Iran and there will be attempts to infringe the balance of power on Lebanese soil and in Lebanon’s skies,” he said. “Should we become convinced that the balance has been compromised, we will be forced to consider our moves.”

Turning his attention to the prospect of renewed peace talks with Syria, Barak said: “Israel has an interest in reaching an agreement with Syria from a position of power and deterrence and bringing it out of the axis of evil.”

The Israeli defense minister said he believes there is a way to work out an agreement via regional talks, adding that President Bashar Assad is seeking open and indirect negotiations, while Israel prefers secret direct talks.

Lebanon: "Hezbollah has a right to use its weapons against Israel ..."

AFP/ here

"Lebanon's new cabinet has agreed on a policy statement that acknowledges Hezbollah's right to use its weapons against Israel, despite disagreement by some members of the ruling majority.... the new statement will retain the same clause approved by the previous cabinet as concerns the arsenal of Hezbollah... The clause states the right of "Lebanon, its government, its people, its army and its resistance" to liberate all Lebanese territory....

..... reservations concerning the clause by members of the Western-backed majority would be noted in the government programme..

Hariri: The Resistance Has Its Weight in Lebanon

27/11/2009 Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri has reportedly expressed relief at the results achieved by the ministerial committee tasked with drafting the policy statement.

As-Safir daily on Friday quoted Hariri's visitors as stressing on the need to keep the atmosphere of consensus in the country.

Hariri also said that he would become the prime minister of all Lebanese. The Future movement leader has stressed on the importance of setting up brotherly ties between Lebanon and Syria based on historic links and common interests.

Hariri, according to his visitors, has said that the resistance is a fact that we cannot ignore and has its weight in Lebanese society.

The Lebanese prime minister also reportedly told his visitors that the latest results of the parliamentary polls showed that people renewed their trust in the resistance and the people's choice should be respected.

He rejected turning the issue of the resistance into a source of Sunni-Shiite tension. "We were in disagreement with the resistance at a certain stage but we have turned the page."

The resistance clause in the policy statement states the right of "Lebanon, its government, its people, its army and its resistance" to liberate all Lebanese territory.

Meanwhile, Hariri met with Hezbollah chief's political assistant Hussein Khalil in Center House on Thursday night in the presence of Nader Hariri and Mustafa Nasser. The two men discussed the latest political developments, according to a statement issued by Hariri's press office.
